BSA Gold Star 650: More Than Just a Paint Job
When you think of a motorcycle getting a new paint job, the excitement might not be overwhelming. However, the latest colors for BSA's Gold Star 650 – Birmingham Blue and Brooklands Black – have fascinating histories that make them stand out in the motorcycle landscape.
The Legacy of Birmingham Blue
The vibrant Birmingham Blue is reminiscent of the origins of BSA itself, born in Birmingham in 1861 as the Birmingham Small Arms Company. This choice of color is not only about aesthetics but a homage to where it all began, making every ride more meaningful. The contrasting white striping accentuates the deep blue, giving a fresh, retro vibe that appeals to both nostalgia and modern sensibilities.
Brooklands Black: Racing Heritage
On the other hand, Brooklands Black links directly to BSA's rich racing history. Named after the Brooklands racetrack, where Wal Handley secured the famous Gold Star badge for going over 100 miles per hour, this color captures the spirit of performance and excitement. Combining black bodywork with chrome and gold pinstriping, it perfectly encapsulates the legacy of speed that BSA established nearly a century ago.
Continuous Performance
Despite its new look, the heart of the Gold Star 650 remains the same. Under the paint, it still boasts a powerful 652cc liquid-cooled single engine, generating 45 horsepower and a sporty 40.6 pound-feet of torque. In a world where more horsepower often dominates the conversation, BSA focuses on heritage and character rather than sheer power, making a compelling argument for riders seeking more than just speed.
Why the Backstory Matters
For motorcyclists, a bike's story adds layers beyond functionality. It appeals to the emotional connection riders have with their machines. Knowing the history behind Birmingham Blue and Brooklands Black can spark conversations among fellow riders, making each ride feel special. It's a great reminder that riding isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the journey and the stories that come with it.
